The Sycamore fig  aka (ficus Sycomorus) is a cousin of the common fig (ficus carica), and produces good quality edible fruit.  This particular variety of sycamore fig is from Israel and is called "Shikma Balami". This is a self pollinating fig variety, which does not require fig wasp pollination or hand pollination to produce ripe figs.  Sycamore figs are one of the first plants cultivated by humans, and are mentioned several times in the Bible. Sycamore fig trees are resistant to root knot nematodes, and are compatible for grafting with ficus carica. So, this may be a good variety to use as rootstock for ficus carica in areas with root knot nematodes.  This fig variety doesn't tolerate freezes, and is only hardy to zone 9 or higher if being planted in the ground, though can likely be grown in colder locations if brought inside for the winter.  Sycamore fig trees were grown by the ancient Egyptians along the Nile river. The figs were used for food and the wood was used to make coffins. There is a great documentary called "Queen of Trees" that is about the Sycamore fig tree.  This listing is for 3-cuttings, suitable for rooting or grafting. Easy to grow from cuttings. We have had great results rooting sycamore fig cuttings using a soil mix of roughly 75% pumice and 25% peat-moss. I suspect that using perlite in place of pumice would likely work as well. This is a rare variety of Ficus, and highly sought after from fig collectors. Copper label included

Easy to Root

Fig trees are east to grow from cuttings. We use the "Fig-Pop" rooting method to root fig cuttings, and have around 80-90% success rate without using any rooting hormone. We include one fig-pop bag with every order. Simply fill the bag half full with damp potting soil, stick in the fig cutting, fold the top plastic over, and wait 3-4 weeks for the fig cutting to grow roots.
